Our founder, Tom Morris began his career in the automotive industry in 1985. In early 2000, Tom and his associates experimented with on-the-car wheel repair, a system that high-line auto dealers in the metro Atlanta market were drawn to due to the value of this service. Initially, there were just three paints and a set of tools to address minor repairs. All work was performed on the car and in an open-air environment. Weather elements and other outdoor variables inhibited the quantity and quality of their work and a need developed for a fully enclosed mobile workshop. Also, know as a Mobile Reconditioning Facility, or MRF – the first “workshop on wheels”, although primitive, was immediately adopted as the official repair method. Tom, realizing the opportunities for becoming a worldwide business, Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists (AWRS) was born and Tom started licensing the concept in 2001. Over 31 licenses were sold in the first two years and in late 2003, Tom converted to franchising.
As AWRS grew, Tom established a Technology Committee to guide Corporate and its franchise network through equipment upgrades, repair processes, and OSHA/EPA/DOT compliance. At that time, the MRF was experiencing structural changes such as replacing plywood benches with metal benches, improved lighting and air conditioning systems, and adding compartments to house a compressor and generator. Other innovations such as an onboard wheel spinner and patented wheel straightener were added and the MRF developed into the industry's most superior wheel repair workshop and gave AWRS its competitive advantage. Our patented (6,347,444) paint adhesion process was also a vital addition to our technology. By 2005, our collective company sales had grown to over $15 million.
Plans To Expand Worldwide
In 2006, AWRS launched its first remanufacturing plant. Remanufacturing gives us the ability to extend the range of repairs to include wheels leaking air or in need of machining, and powder coating. In 2007, AWRS of Atlanta purchased Worlds of Wheels, an Atlanta retailer and wholesaler of chrome and OEM replacement wheels. AWRS began to operate a core exchange business in addition to its mobile units. We now have five remanufacturing plants with plans to expand worldwide. By the end of 2007, our collective sales were over $27 million. Several of our larger franchisees reported as much as $3 million in annual revenue.
Grown To Over 160 National and International Franchises
Our technology remains our greatest asset. The MRF is built completely in-house by certified technicians 100% OSHA/EPA/DOT compliant, have upgraded generators, compressors, air filtration technology, curing and drying systems, downdraft paint booths. As of present day, the AWRS network has grown to over 160 national and international franchises, operating in 48 US States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France, China, Sweden, Jordan, Morocco, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and the GCC Countries of the Arab States.
